Xenri no tsuki

Japanese cuisine is best at Xenri no tsuki. Both lunch and dinner. Both in HK and KL.

This place has a lot to offer other than its usual authenticity and freshness of its ingredients.

Their service is always excellent (the floor manager in HK branch was very attentive and professional) and the low-key quiet atmosphere further enhances the entire dining experience.

Three months ago when we first dined in at this restaurant in Causeway Bay, Alex felt in love with it instantly. The sashimi tasted remarkably fresh as if it was slaughtered just before serving. The menu selection wasn't extensive but managed to focus on their few selection of good dishes.

This is the branch at Jalan P. Ramlee, opposite Shangri-la Hotel.

The food tasted just as good as HK!

A welcome appetiser for what I believed is braised tofu and clam.
This is one of the best dishes I have ever tasted in my life.
The flavour was very delicate.

If you have noticed it, we did not order any sashimi or tempura because Alex was still recovering from a bad diarrhoea. Nevertheless, we had a good time eating out together at Xenri! ^_^

Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur

We stayed at Hilton KL when we were in Malaysia. 

We got upgraded to a suite from the third night for a special reason.

The original deluxe room was very comfy and nicely decorated. The bathroom was spacious and the view from our room was spectacular. For a five stars hotel, the room charges were reasonable with free buffet breakfast every morning.

However....

The housekeeping in our room was shocking. 

The shower head busted in the middle of shower......

......and HENCE THE UPGRADE!

Check out the deluxe room. Marble bath tub offers a true indulgence.

The bedroom looks sensational!

I like the layout of the room. Bar area separates the front door from the main area for privacy reason.

And the study area... The cabinets behind it can store quite a few things, including an ironing board.



Now this is the true luxury.

The layout and design of the room are great. I like big windows overlooking the city.



Between the bedroom and the lounge is the study room.
The door behind the study area is actually a walk-in wardrobe.
The cabinets around it are storage rooms.
I would like my house to look like this too!





The giant bed and the giant couch.
I like the walnut colour of the couch. It creates a sense of luxury to the room!



The spacious bathroom is next to the bedroom.
You can slide the door for privacy.
I like double basins. One for Alex to do his shaving. One for me to do my make up.
There is a mini TV on the mirror.
The lighting is also much better than the deluxe room.

Not to forget the dining area. I like giant mirror in the dining room.

This is another toilet in the lounge for visitors. The red marble around the basin looks pretty impressive, doesn't it?

Hilton KL wasn't bad afterall.
The security around the building was very strict.
The staff were very polite and helpful although the concierge team was pretty under-trained.
The atmosphere at the lobby was very inviting.
The food at its Chynna restaurant was delightful.
The moon cakes at the restaurant were unbelievably delicious.

It worths the value of money we paid.

Hello Malaysia!

Trip to Malaysia, of course, is not always as lavish as Hong Kong, but somehow, oddly enough, I feel extraordinarily rejuvenating and fulfilling after my holiday. Time sure has gone by so quickly, I wish I could have more time to spend with my family and friends...

Ten days holiday wasn't enough with our schedule packed with family and friends gatherings, leaving us with only very little time together and mostly on the horrendous traffic jam anyway.

Despite all the hassles and the mucking around, I am still grateful for being able to introduce Alex the culture and lifestyle I grew up with. You know... things like the old indian barber shop, the durian, the teh tarik, the mooncake festival and my oil painting passion... Believe it or not, this is one of my long-forgotten masterpieces I painted when I was still a school girl. I doubt if I can still produce such an amazing artwork after 10 years.

Alex seemed to enjoy himself particularly the time he spent with his grandfather (we called him Kung Kung). I have heard many great stories about Kung Kung when he was young, like starting his own engineering business at young age of 25, being commended and respected by the British Colonel, he was invited by the then Japanese Prime Minister for more engineering businesses, followed by the Datoship offer by the Sultan of Pahang. I am even more convinced after spoken to Kung Kung myself. He spoke very good English and at 91 years old, he is still very sharp and strong, both mentally and physically.

Oh dear... I am missing Malaysia already thinking about the people I met (including the friendly staff at the hotel we stayed in), the climate, the food and the inexpensive cost of living. Where on earth could you find garlic this cheap?

There are many little things about Malaysia that make me happy like the star pillows we bought from a random gift shop at Midvalley megamall. I like them because they are soft, furless and easy to clean ^_^

And the waffle we ate at a random cafe at 1-utama shopping centre.
This waffle is huge! I reckon it is as big as my face and it cost us only RM7+ each, topped with ice cream, fresh fruit and whipped cream... Yummm...!

It didn't take much to put a grin on my face at all... ^_^



Malaysia has indeed changed a lot since the past few years. I could barely recognised the buildings and streets anymore. There's certainly been a lot of advancement though I still mesmerise the good old days we used to spend our time at the lake garden and playground. Back in those days, happiness is as simple as sharing a plate of chee cheong fun with some friends. Unlike now, everything seems so commercialised and superficial.

Our families and friends have been very kind to organise and take us to many dinners and gatherings and they are what made the trip exceptionally meaningful. I would certainly want to come back again and I am glad that Alex feels the same way too.
